Emma Stone’s Jennifer Lawrence jealousy almost stopped their friendship

Emma Stone admitted in an email to Vanity Fair that she was initially jealous of and freaking out over Jennifer Lawrence‘s rise to fame.

“She may not even know this,” Stone explained, “but there was definitely a time early on when I was like ‘OH HEY MY EGO IS GOING NUTS SHE’S SO GREAT AND VIBRANT AND TALENTED I’M SCREWED I’LL NEVER WORK AGAIN GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD.’ Then I chilled the fuck out — and remembered we’re completely different and there is room for everyone, even if it’s an industry that doesn’t really seem to support that idea up front.”

She added, “We both really do love each other and care about each other as people, beyond being actors. I support her completely when it comes to work and I feel the same from her, but I know we’d be friends even if we didn’t do the same job.”

Lawrence echoed those statements in her new interview with Vanity Fair ahead of the premiere of her new movie, Passengers, “If I wasn’t her biggest fan, I would’ve Tonya Harding’d her in the kneecaps.” (Excuse me while I laugh my ass off.)

Even the start to their friendship seemed rocky. Stone initially got Lawrence’s number from Woody Harrelson. Stone worked with Harrelson on Zombieland while Lawrence worked with him in The Hunger Games films, and Harrelson thought the two girls would hit it off.

Lawrence recalled the first text encounter, “She [Stone] texted me that she got my number from Woody,” Lawrence said. “I replied, ‘Fuck off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”

The girls haven’t just been friends. They’ve been the best of friends.

In fact, Lawrence said after the initial text message exchange, they wrote one another every day for a year.

“I feel like it was our version of The Notebook — 365 texts.”

Next step: These ladies need to make a movie together, hopefully starring Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling. OMG, it needs to happen.

Do you think Stone and Lawrence could be the next Hollywood power couple?
