Prince Jackson is doing everything he can to make sure his father’s legacy lives on.

Seven years after Michael Jackson died, Prince is now a student at Loyola Marymount University. In a new interview with Extra‘s Mario Lopez, he explained how he’s using his time as a student there to carry on his late father’s legacy of giving back.

One of the main ways he’s doing it is with an organization he co-founded on campus called Heal Los Angeles, kind of an offshoot of his dad’s charity, Heal the World.

“It’s a student service organization at Loyola Marymount University,” Prince explained, adding that the organization tries to tackle issues like homelessness, child abuse and child hunger. “My friend John Muto wanted to start a service organization in which we honor my father. That’s why we took it from Heal the World and we call it Heal LA, so we can start locally and hopefully spread it around.”

The charity is currently partnering with the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club for a Christmas event and collecting donations for its holiday work via Twitter and GoFundMe.

And while his charity work is an important part of keeping his father’s legacy alive, Prince has other ways too. He’s working on breaking into the music business, and his first step was to start a production company called King’s Son Productions.

“It’s a little homage to my dad,” he explained. “We try to focus on bringing back the long form of storytelling in music videos.”
