Anyone who watched Kanye West‘s concert rants, which preceded his hospitalization over the past few weeks, could tell that there was more going on with West than simple exhaustion.

Well, according to TMZ, there was a lot more going on. The erratic behavior was the result of West inconsistently taking medication that he had been prescribed for “psychological issues,” TMZ said.
West has been open in the past about his struggles with depression and anxiety. But I wonder why this was finally the psychological breaking point for West, who has become legendary for his strange public rants. Dissing Jay Z and Beyoncé hardly seems out of the ordinary for the man who interrupted Taylor Swift in the middle of accepting her MTV Music Award to declare that Beyoncé should have won. Just last year, West had another strange rant at a show, declaring his intention to run for president in 2020.

According to TMZ, the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak, was Kim Kardashian‘s Paris robbery in October. The outlet reports that following that event, West deviated from his prescribed dosage of medicine, and the event apparently took a heavy toll on his mental health.
A source who spoke with Us Weekly seemed to back up this claim: “He’s been shaken up ever since the robbery in Paris. It did a number on him as much as Kim. The mere thought that anything could happen to her sent him in a tailspin.”
That and the fact that it was the anniversary of the death of West’s mother, Donda.
West and his mother were incredibly close, and when she died suddenly in 2007, he was devastated. But according to his close friend Fonzworth Bentley, West never fully processed Donda’s death.
“He never mourned his mother, and that’s at the root of this, and you don’t have to be a clinical psychologist to figure that out,” Bentley told the Tequila Avión podcast Rich Friend: The Elevated Conversation, The New York Post’s Page Six reports. “That is at the core of this. I think a lot of these things are coming up and coming out now.”
Bentley continued, “You have to look at it from his perspective. You put out the most amazing album. You’re breaking records on merch… So, what happens is…you take that, and then your fashion show just demolishes and fails… We all know more than anything that he wants to be successful in fashion, so when editors and everything are beating him up… That happens and then you’re onstage, your wife gets robbed — and it’s not like that didn’t happen — that happened… It’s not OK. That’s not something to question. That really happened.”
Thankfully, West is getting the help he needs. He has now been released from the hospital and is said to be resting and recuperating at home with his family.
