We hate to say it, but tonight’s portion of The Voice‘s Season 11 finale was seriously underwhelming. Alicia Keys was (gasp) off-key during her duet with Wé McDonald and Adam Levine’s duet with Billy Gilman was just mediocre. But in a night of disappointment, there was one bright spot: Sundance Head.

Head has consistently been strong this season, but this evening, he peaked at the right time, with an original song that delivered the perfect emotional touch. “Darlin’ Don’t Go” was penned exclusively for Head’s wife after the two got in a bad argument. Head’s message may have been simple, but the sentiment was genuine and the delivery unmatched. We couldn’t help but feel emotional seeing Head leave it all on the stage.

It was fun hearing all of the other original songs, but nothing could compare to the awe-inspiring quality of Head’s performance. Blake Shelton said it best: “How in the hell [has] this guy not been discovered before? This is unbelievable!”

The original song alone could have convinced any viewer to pick up the phone and vote, but Head’s cover was also impressive. Always eager to take his body of work in a new and unexpected direction, Head sang “At Last” by Etta James. He put his own spin on the song, and wow, talk about a memorable performance!

All of this season’s finalists on The Voiceare amazing in their own way, but there is something special about Sundance Head. We would be thrilled to see him come away with a Season 11 victory.
