Amber Heard is trying to empower victims of domestic violence by sharing her own story, but it might be doing more harm than good.

First was the domestic violence PSA that Heard recorded.
Now, she’s released an open letter addressed to her “silent sisters.”
“You are not alone,” she writes. “You may have suffered alone behind closed doors, but you are not alone. You need to know that. I want to remind you of your strength, a strength that has been multiplied by the number of women who stand silently behind you — a truth that allowed me to break down the doors I once found myself behind.”
She continues, “Let’s start with the truth — the cold, hard truth. When a woman comes forward to speak out about injustice or her suffering, instead of aid, respect and support, she will be met with hostility, skepticism and shame. Her motives will be questioned and her truth ignored. I was raised to be independent and self-reliant. I was never given nor wanted the burden of dependency. I never felt like anyone would or could rescue me, so naturally I resented the label of ‘victim.’ As I write this today, I can promise every woman who is suffering in silence, you are not alone. You may not see us, but we are there.”
In her letter, Heard never specifically mentions her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, whom she accused of abuse. But when the letter is compared to what she said about Depp during their divorce, it’s pretty obvious whom she’s alluding to.
TMZ reports that it could get Heard into some trouble — her divorce agreement reportedly includes a confidentiality clause that forbids her from talking about Depp. He still owes her $6.8 million of the settlement that she pledged to give to domestic violence charities. Her open letter could give Depp a reason to fight her about the money, which would cost those organizations a lot.
