As the wounded but resilient Sasha on The Walking Dead, Martin-Green has often been presented as a strong female character. No doubt those skills will be put to use when she blasts off into the galaxy on Discovery and teaches the Star Trek crew a thing or two about going into uncharted territory. It’s almost certain that with this Discovery gig, Martin-Green will be a certifiable breakout star in 2017.

The pair has been married since 2010, and from the looks of her Instagram, it is not difficult to see why they work so well as a couple. In an interview with TV Guide, Green spoke about how working with his wife helped ease him into his new acting gig: “Coming on as the spouse, I didn’t join the cast with her but I got to meet everyone and get introduced to the world with her, so by the time I joined it already felt like home.”

In an interview with The Mary Sue, Martin-Green stated, “I think [The Walking Dead] handles diversity in a great way, because it’s not harped on. No one is hit over the head with it. It just is what it is. These are different people, they’ve come together, they’ve decided to be a family, and they happen to look like all of us. I really appreciate and respect that. I do think I’m part of progress in that way. And what an amazing thing — to be a part of progress.”
