Tom Cruise has a little pet name for Leah Remini: Lucifer.

Remini, who is currently promoting her A&E docuseries Scientology and the Aftermath, sat down with Larry King to talk about the work she’s done to discredit the church of Scientology and its followers, like Cruise. According to the interview, there’s no love lost between Remini and Cruise, who is one of the biggest names in the church.
“He wouldn’t say anything to me because he thinks I’m the devil,” Remini said when asked what Cruise might have to say to her these days. “He honestly believes… Tom and most Scientologists, all Scientologists, are taught to believe that people like me are literally the devil, that we mean them harm.”

Remini was born into the church, but chose to leave it in 2013. Since then, she’s exposed secrets from inside the church, and widely claimed that it exists only to scam its members out of tons of money. In a recent Reddit discussion, Remini admitted that she’s paid millions into the church in her lifetime. In that same discussion, Remini said that the church views Cruise as its Messiah.
But during her interview with King, Remini said she thinks Cruise must know what’s going on behind the church’s closed doors.
“Tom is very well aware of what is Scientology, truthfully,” she said. “He is very aware that it’s an organization that is defrauding people out of their lives. But in his heart, I believe he believes it.”
Meanwhile, the church has launched a website to fight Remini’s claims and released a statement about her docuseries, writing, “Leah Remini is doing this show for the money, just as she profited from her book. In addition, she attempted to extort the Church by first demanding $500,000, followed by an additional $1 million, because the Church invoked its First Amendment right to respond to her false claims with the truth. This shows the extent Leah Remini is willing to go to in order to distort the truth about Scientology.”
