Big changes are a-comin’ — reports say Tom Cruise is ready to start building a relationship with his estranged daughter, Suri, after he’s been rumored to have had no contact with her for several years.

According to In Touch, the change came because Cruise’s mom died earlier this year. Losing a close family member made him reassess his priorities, a source told the magazine, and one of those turned out to be getting back in touch with Suri.
“Tom now wants to re-establish his relationship with his daughter and begin seeing her on a regular basis,” the insider said. “He is ready to ramp up his relationship with her in a big way.”
Since there have been so many rumors saying Cruise’s nonexistent relationship with Suri was due to his being such an active Scientologist, the news definitely makes you wonder whether Cruise is as committed to the church as he’s been in the past. This has crazy implications for the church, considering how important Cruise is within its ranks.

Suri, who is now 10, has lived with Cruise’s ex-wife, Katie Holmes, since they divorced in 2012. While the divorce was ongoing, their estrangement began — during divorce proceedings, Cruise admitted to reporters that he hadn’t seen Suri in several months, but that there was just nothing he could do about that at the time.
“Unfortunately, in this situation it was impossible,” he said.
Later, when it was revealed that Cruise still wasn’t seeing Suri, he blamed his filming schedule for All You Need Is Kill, which kept him in London, but he did say he spoke to Suri on the phone daily. Even after returning to the U.S., though, Cruise was still pretty open about not spending time with Suri, still blaming the divorce.
“Things change and there are different agreements, like in any divorce, where you work out schedules,” he said. “It’s just a different set of circumstances. It certainly does not mean that I’ve abandoned my daughter.”
