Andrew Garfield and Dev Patel Had an Oscars Bromance and You Had No Idea

Move over, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield has a new relationship for us all to obsess over, and this one is all man.

Garfield and Dev Patel shared a sweet, sweet embrace last night during an Oscar’s commercial break, and it was so beautiful, the internet fell in love.

Here’s what I imagine they’re saying:

Patel: Man, how do you smell so good?

Garfield: Oh, thank you. It’s actually just my natural scent.

Patel: I’m going to hug you so I can just get a whiff of that Garfield-ness.

Garfield: Let’s be best friends.

In reality, these two were probably bro-ing out about their work this year. Garfield was nominated for Best Actor, while Patel was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Neither won, but that doesn’t mean their performances weren’t gab-worthy.

Their Oscar moment was so passionate, many people thought the two were going to start making out.

I think it’s easy to forget how much time all of these actors spend together during award season. It isn’t just the award shows themselves, but it’s the after-parties, the pre-parties, the interviews (they both appeared in the Hollywood Reporter together), the nomination events and studio events. By the time the Oscars roll around, most of them are old friends. They’re looking at the front three rows of that audience the way we used to look at our high school classmates. Old faces.

This may be the first time we’ve caught Garfield and Patel looking cozy with each other, but I bet it’s far from the first time they’ve gotten chummy. And let’s not lie, we’re all hoping this isn’t the last time we see the bromance come out to play.
