You know it’s realwhen Mariah Carey quotes Will Ferrell on Instagram. Er — well, something like that. In the wee hours this morning, Carey posted a pic of herself mid-embrace with her new boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka. Her commentary below the pic: “’No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative … it gets the people going!’” For good measure, she threw in a winky-face emoji.
Just to further complicate things, we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that this quote, which Ferrell said in the 2007 movie Blades of Glory, was originally in reference to the Black Eyed Peas song “My Humps.” Ferrell’s co-star Jon Heder said, “Lady humps? I don’t even know what that means!” And then Ferrell delivered his memorable line, which was later sampled by Kanye West and Jay Z.

As for Carey and Tanaka, they’re clearly living the dream. Whether they’re serious or just having a little fun with us (or with each other), Carey definitely seems to be enjoying flaunting her relationship with the younger backup dancer. As does Tanaka: He posted a pic of himself with Carey in Dubai three days ago, adding, “I’ve been to Dubai a few times before and I didn’t think it could get any better… but this trip definitely has topped them all! #Moments#MuchLove.”
Tanaka was first spotted in Carey’s reality show, Mariah’s World, saying things like, “Mariah is the type of woman that I see myself with.” Indeed.

Will Tanaka be husband No. 3 for Carey? In all honestly, doubtful. But if she wants to have a good time in, say, Hawaii, London and Dubai with Tanaka, who are we to judge? A little international romance never hurt anyone. And if she can stay lighthearted about the whole thing, all the better.
