Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott continue to insist that they aren’t actually broke like the headlines say they are. But the evidence is really piling up against their claims.
McDermott was in court on Thursday over a child support dispute with his ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace. He was found in contempt of court and was about to be taken to jail over his failure to pay her thousands of dollars that he owes her. The judge ended up giving McDermott one last chance to avoid jail time: He was allowed to work out a deal with Eustace.

He promised to get her half of what he owes her by Monday (if, Page Six reports, he can find the cash), causing Eustace to withdraw her complaint — for now. Sources told the site that if McDermott doesn’t follow through, she’s planning to re-file on Tuesday, and that’ll mean McDermott is heading to jail for not paying up.
Despite McDermott and Spelling’s claims that they aren’t in financial straits as bad as they appear to be in the media, McDermott told the court that the reason he hasn’t paid his back child support is that he’s “fallen on hard times.” He stopped making child support payments in October and faced eight counts of contempt — one for each month that he didn’t make a payment.

Meanwhile, Spelling and McDermott had a baby shower that reportedly cost five figures for their fifth pregnancy, and the couple are being sued by credit card companies for unpaid debts nearing $100,000. They also reportedly owe $259,000 in back taxes. The last time Spelling spoke publicly about the family’s finances, she claimed they had once had money problems, but that was all in the past.
“It was one chapter,” she told People magazine. “I thought I was being relatable, talking about how celebrities go through financial struggles, too, we make mistakes, too.”
