Angelina Jolie Got a Huge, Painful Tattoo ‘Binding’ Her to Brad Pitt

There’s a pretty simple cardinal rule when it comes to tattoos: You don’t ever get one to signify a relationship. At worst, some say it’s a curse that dooms the relationship to end. Angelina Jolie has now broken that rule twice.

First, she famously had “Billy Bob” tattooed on her arm during her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton. After their divorce, she had that lasered off and replaced with the GPS coordinates of the birthplaces of her six children and Pitt.

Now, new images have started making the rounds online showing Jolie getting some new ink just months before she suddenly filed for divorce from Pitt. According to Yahoo Entertainment, Jolie and Pitt got tattooed together at the time with the same ink and matching patterns, something that was supposed to “symbolically bind them as husband and wife.” Womp, womp.

The couple got their tattoos in Cambodia from ex-Thai Monk Ajarn Noo Kanpai, who tattooed them in a painful, traditional method using a single long handheld needle. Jolie got sacred Buddhist markings on her upper back, while Pitt reportedly got Buddhist symbols on his stomach.

Reportedly, they had their session in February last year while they were in Cambodia for Jolie to film First They Killed My Father. She would file for divorce just seven months later.
