Leave it to Ewan McGregor to be the voice of reason in response to that Beauty and the Beast controversy over the fact that the character of LeFou has a “gay moment” during the film.
“It’s 2017, for fuck’s sake,” McGregor said when Stephen Colbert brought up the controversy on The Late Show.

Yes, yes it is. The fact that this is still even an issue is just… well… *sigh*
McGregor didn’t stop there, though, he had some more snarky remarks for those who won’t see the movie.
“I think if you live anywhere near Alabama, you should not go and see this film,” McGregor said, joking. “What would Jesus think?”
In case you missed it, this comment is in reference to Alabama’s Henagar Drive-In Theatre, which announced they wouldn’t show the movie because of its homosexual elements. Oh boy.
It’s also been clarified that while there is a gay moment, it isn’t a big plot point. Emma Watson said the part in the scene is “very subtle” and music composer Alan Menken said LeFou’s sexuality is a “nonissue” in the film.
But even if it were, the diversity Disney is beginning to incorporate into its films is something we should all be encouraged to see. Let’s celebrate equality and films that showcase real life. Now that’s true beauty.
