Scarlett Johansson’s Next Real-Life Role Could Be in the White House

This is a politically trying time for all of us. But we have a bit of news, which could perhaps be construed as good, depending on who you are (and if you were in attendance at the Women’s March on Washington): Scarlett Johansson is threatening to run for office now. So get ready for that.

In a chat with Michael Strahan, Johansson acknowledged her turn at the Women’s March and also admitted she’d be down for running for office someday. “I’m not afraid to say what I feel is right just because I think that I’m going to face criticism or some people might not like me,” Johansson said. “If fighting for women’s rights, that’s going to mean that some people don’t want to buy a ticket to see Ghost in a Shell, then I’m OK with that.” We’re pretty sure she means Ghost in THE Shell, and we’re not sure why she doesn’t know the name of her own movie, but moving on.

“I’ve always been interested in local politics,” Johansson continued. “Right now, I think with my young daughter, and also as my career is going right now, it’s not the right time. But eventually, maybe if my daughter was older and I could totally focus myself on something like that, I think it could be interesting.”

You heard it here first, folks. Or second, if you watch Good Morning America. Anyway, Johansson is seriously contemplating running for office. She might want to consider cutting down her speeches a bit; though her talk at the Women’s March was truncated due to time, many in attendance (including, ahem, me) thought it went on way too long and focused too much on her own personal experience at Planned Parenthood, which seemed a little one-note in the face of a global crisis. But I’d totally vote for her. Anyone down with Planned Parenthood is down with me.
