There’s a Lot to Unpack in Kim Kardashian’s Latest Tweets

Kim Kardashian, despite being the human embodiment of one of those holiday noisemakers — loud, shiny, kind of pointless in the end, but thrilling nonetheless — is something of a queen-maker. She can light up the world with her Snapchat.

And she can make headlines with a tweet. Sometimes that’s for controversial reasons, like when she repeatedly came under fire for posting nude photos, the main argument being that she’s a mother and shouldn’t be so…free? It is a bit of a narcissistic, attention-seeking thing to do. But I personally think the criticisms were a crock of shit, and arguments like that contribute to our culture that wants women to be either sexual or motherly, never both — even though it literally takes one to get to the other.

I digress… this time around, though, Kardashian’s Twitter reveals that she is into… history? And a Katie Holmes fan? And she’s potentially being paid by Reelz to promote their new show The Kennedys: After Camelot?

Surprisingly, there’s a lot to unpack here. First of all, to call Katie Holmes “the perfect Jackie O” is a bit scandalous after Natalie Portman’s Oscar-nominated turn as the bereaved first lady in last year’s Jackie. I’m not saying that Holmes isn’t a good fit for the role, but to reference it as “perfect” is certainly hyperbolic. It’s not surprising, though, Kardashian would be a fan of Katie Holmes. Holmes reportedly had her own private and secret door installed at a Manhattan Whole Foods, and that’s about as amazingly extra as you can get. I am with her on all career and life decisions post-Tom.

The oddest thing here is a clear Reelz plug. Or is it? According to the rep, she simply just likes the show: “We’re pleased Kim is a fan of REELZ and watches our shows.” But let’s pretend that wasn’t the case for a second. To be paid to plug a show is one thing, but to specifically also hype the network is bizarre. Not to mention Kardashian didn’t specifically indicate that the tweet was a paid ad, which the Kardashians have gotten into trouble for in the past since it is now illegal to not disclose that you were paid to promote something within the promotional social media post.

(I was paid by the government to promote that law in this article #ad #spon). For Kardashian to say she hearts Reelz is just hilarious in the same way it’s hilarious that the world being obsessed with the Kardashians in general is hilarious.
