Ben Affleck Is Divorcing Jennifer Garner and Yes, This Time They’re Serious

It’s been a long and turbulent couple of years for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, the couple who seem to either be making up or breaking up on the regular. Now, it’s official: Affleck and Garner are getting divorced. According to Entertainment Tonight, the couple have officially filed after two years of separation marked by periodic reunions and efforts to go to couples therapy and work on living together as a family.

Interestingly, Affleck and Garner filed the petition for divorce together, implying that this is the most friendly split and outcome possible. One would certainly hope that after two years of gently test-driving a breakup, they would be able to part on good terms. There has been no official statement released from either camp announcing the divorce, however; we’ll have to wait and see what happens next.

The couple announced their separation back in 2015, one day after their 10-year anniversary. “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” read a joint statement released by Affleck and Garner. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”

The amicable nature of their split was clear from the very beginning, so it’s no surprise that this official filing appeared amicable as well. The actors also sought couples therapy at the beginning of their separation. When Affleck returned from rehab earlier this year, his statement implied that Garner was a pivotal person in his recovery. Now, the two will officially go their separate ways after many attempts to reconcile. It would seem that Affleck and Garner are both in agreement this is the best thing to do, and they’ll both be able to move forward with their lives.
