This Isn’t the First Time Nina Dobrev and Orlando Bloom Have ‘Dated’

The internet has been abuzz with rumors about Orlando Bloom dating Nina Dobrev, and although we’re totally into all of the hullabaloo, we also can’t really say that we’re surprised.

Bloom and Dobrev go way back and this isn’t even the first time they’ve been rumored to be an item. That, plus the fact that Bloom has just split from longtime girlfriend Katy Perry, makes us suspect that their latest connection falls more into the “post-breakup victory lap” camp than the “seriously dating” camp.

Regardless, let’s take a look back at where the paths of these two Coachella-goers have crossed before.

How they met

We’ve scoured the internet, but alas, we don’t know exactly how they first met. Many suspect that Orlando Bloom and Nina Dobrev may have been introduced by their shared manager, Scott Wexler. You know how in real life you meet dudes through friends or co-workers? The Hollywood equivalent of this is managers and publicists.

How they hooked up the first time (as rumors have it)

The pair was rumored to have been seen holding hands in January 2014, which escalated to a little more a few months later.

After being introduced, the pair found themselves together at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014 and an Us Weekly source reported that the two were getting pretty handsy with each other, engaging in long make-out sessions and grinding on the dance floor.

A source close to Dobrev at the time said that the make-out sesh was anything but significant, saying “She’s single and having fun!”

Post-Comic-Con make-out, things seemed to quiet down between the pair — at least publically. Life went on, Bloom punched Bieber in the face (OMG, remember that??) and then in January 2016, Bloom began dating Katy Perry and was seen with her at Coachella last year

How they reunited for a second go-around

On March 1 of this year, Perry and Bloom announced their split, and shortly thereafter, on April 12, Dobrev and Bloom were spotted together at the premiere of Christian Bale’s The Promise.

They placed a pal as a buffer between them, but there they are in the same frame nonetheless. And predictably, it wasn’t long before dating rumors began to fly again.

Of this most recent connection, a People magazine article quotes a source who says that Bloom “doesn’t want a girlfriend and enjoys being single.”

Hmm, sound familiar?

Another source quoted by the magazine states that the two are definitely not exclusive and that Bloom is “dating and having a good time. He has known Nina for a long time. They are having fun together.”

So, what’s their deal now?

I mean… can I break it down a bit more clearly for everyone’s sake? These two are straight fuck buddies. Or friends with benefits, if you prefer that term. I mean, we’ve all been there, right?

You meet someone, there’s a mutual attraction. You find yourselves at the same party one night, end up making out, doing some dirty dancing at the club and perhaps heading home together. But for whatever reason — timing, living in different cities, being in different relationship spaces, whatever — it doesn’t go any further than that.

Each of you moves on, dates other people and occasionally keeps in touch. Then all of a sudden, boom, you’re both single, and lo and behold, you find yourself at the same event again! Lust flares, chemistry sparks, you pick up where you left off and this, my friends, is how we get dating rumors.

But, by all accounts, they’re not dating. These are two attractive, single people who seem to be quite fond of each other, taking advantage of finally being single at the same time in the same place, yet unwilling to give up that single status for a real relationship.

And why not? More power to you both.
