After much anticipation, photos and a trailer of Young Sheldon, aka the Big Bang Theory prequel about Sheldon Cooper, are finally here.
More:Why the TBBT Sheldon Cooper Spinoff Is Still a Bad Idea
Last November, there were rumors that the spinoff would be coming to CBS, and in March, the comedy was ordered straight to series for the 2017 – ’18 TV season. On Wednesday, the first three photos and trailer from Young Sheldon were released. It took them long enough, didn’t it?
For those unaware, the project will follow Sheldon growing up in East Texas and entering high school at a young age.
As for the images, they showcase a 9-year-old Sheldon (played by Big Little Lies‘ Iain Armitage) and his mom, Mary Cooper, played by Zoe Perry (her mom, Laurie Metcalf plays Mary in TBBT). As hesitant as we are about the prequel, the photos are super-adorable. Young Sheldon is cute as a button with his briefcase and bow tie.
Another positive is Perry. She was phenomenal during her Season 6 Scandal arc, and we can’t wait to see her as the younger Mary Cooper. We have no doubt that she’ll make the role just as memorable as her mother does.

During CBS’ 2017 upfronts presentation, the network said the series has a Doogie Howser vibe. CBS even said that Young Sheldon isn’t Muppet Babies, but rather more like The Wonder Years. Apparently, people are already loving the new show, because according to the network, when they tested the prequel, those who aren’t even fans of Big Bangliked its spinoff. That says a lot.
We are definitely curious to see if the show will become a hit and will be just as funny as its predecessor. It’s hard to say based on just photos, but they aren’t turning us off by any means.
As with Perry, we also can’t wait to see Armitage in action. His role as Sheldon Cooper certainly isn’t anything like his character Ziggy Chapman on Big Little Lies.
We’re going to have to wait a while to see him bring Sheldon to life in a full episode. So until then, we’re just going to keep track of him on Instagram. He seriously knows how to use his cuteness to his advantage. Also, similar to how Sheldon knows all when it comes to comics, trains and science, Armitage is a theater buff. If you don’t believe us, here’s proof.
Yeah, we can totally see him as Sheldon.
