Bobby Moynihan, creator of the truly iconic Saturday Night Live character, is officially leaving the show. We know this will be the end of Drunk Uncle, because no one could possibly recreate Moynihan in that role.
Moynihan is sticking around for the show’s season finale this weekend, but moving on after that, Variety reports. For Moynihan’s fans, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise — his departure from SNL was kind of expected since CBS picked up the comedy series Me, Myself & I starring Moynihan for the 2017 – 2018 season.

Moynihan was one of SNL‘s longest-running cast members — this season was his ninth — and among the current cast, the only person with more seniority than Moynihan is Kenan Thompson. In those nine seasons, Moynihan developed some recurring characters that fans have grown to recognize and love, including secondhand reporter Anthony Crispino and of course, Drunk Uncle. He also portrayed a number of real-life public figures, including Chris Christie, Guy Fieri and Snooki.

Moynihan has been doing press appearances for Me, Myself & I ahead of his final SNL episode on Saturday, which will feature Baywatch star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as host and Katy Perry as musical guest.
