Steve Harvey’s Ex-Wife, Mary Vaughn, Has Made Grave Allegations Against Him

It’s been more than a decade since Steve Harvey settled his divorce with his second wife, Mary Vaughn, but she’s still coming at him.

Vaughn filed a lawsuit against the Family Feud host this week. In the suit, she levels a number of shocking (and bizarre) allegations against him, says that their nine-year marriage subjected her to “prolonged torture with the infliction of severe mental pain and suffering” and asks for $60 million in damages.

Court documents show that Vaughn is claiming she “attempted suicide by self-medicating [in] an effort to stop the pain” and that the “severe emotional distress” caused by Harvey and his attorneys caused medical problems that Vaughn and her immediate family claim they’ve been dealing with for the last 15 years. She’s also suing for “alleged child endangerment, torture, kidnapping, breach of contract, conspiracy against rights, intentional infliction of emotional distress, harassment, brainwashing, theft by deception” and “soul murdering,” whatever that is.

What makes the lawsuit even more bizarre is that it was filed by a civil rights activist who was granted power of attorney by Vaughn, not by an actual lawyer. Vaughn will be representing herself in the suit, court documents say, which seems like an ill-advised idea considering the caliber of lawyer Harvey would be able to hire.

Harvey’s lawyer, Brandon R. Williams, released a statement Friday morning about the lawsuit, saying, “Mr. Harvey vehemently denies any allegations set forth in the lawsuit. The complaint is meritless, frivolous and the allegations are completely false. We will vigorously defend/counterclaim against the complaint.”

This isn’t the first time Vaughn has caused legal trouble since settling her divorce with Harvey. In 2013, she was sentenced to 30 days in jail for breaking a gag order in their divorce settlement and airing her grievances with Harvey in a video posted to YouTube.
