Katy Perry’s Thoughts on Ending Her Feud With Taylor Swift Are Confusing

Katy Perry is going to need to get her story straight, because she is sending some incredibly mixed signals about her feelings on her feud with Taylor Swift. Following the release of her deeply shady single “Swish Swish,” Perry is trying to clear the air about this ongoing beef with Swift. In Perry’s opinion, Swift should be the one to end things because she is the one who started it.

According to E! News, Perry’s Carpool Karaoke appearance on The Late Late Show Primetime Special included host James Corden questioning Perry about the feud’s origins and what Perry believes should be done to end it. Perry’s responses were interesting to say the least, as the video, courtesy of CNN, illustrates below.

Perry essentially deflected responsibility for her own actions in this ongoing beef with Swift while telling Corden about this simmering fight. “There’s a situation,” Perry told Corden. “Honestly, it’s really like she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it.”

Perry continued to tell Corden that after the infamous dancer mix-up that apparently left a thorn in Swift’s paw, she tried to call Swift to fix this misunderstanding. “She wouldn’t speak to me. I do the right thing anytime that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me and I’m like ‘OK, cool, cool, cool. That’s how you wanna deal with it?'”

Perry was referring to Swift writing the song “Bad Blood,” which many believe is about Perry’s role in the incident. Now, here’s where Perry is her own worst enemy: by implying to Corden that Swift was perhaps petty or wrong in writing “Bad Blood,” she appears hypocritical because she allegedly has done exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons with “Swish Swish.” Perry has not confirmed the song is about Swift, but Perry’s addressing of the feud while “Swish Swish” is available for people to listen to makes it feel like there’s a connection to be made.

Considering all the alleged pettiness and back and forth sniping between these two pop singers, Perry’s ultimate message about ending this feud is a hell of a thing. “I think personally that women together, not divided, and like none of this petty [bleeped word],” Perry said. “Women together will heal the world.”

Now, if you can tell me how women writing dis tracks about one another equals unity and healing, I’ll be indebted to you for a good, long while.
