If there’s one thing you can count on when it comes to Ben Higgins, it’s niceties — he’s about as wholesome as they come in The Bachelor franchise. So when he took to social media to respond to recent chatter about his breakup with Lauren Bushnell, he clapped back at haters with, well, nothing but love.

Parting ways with a person you shared your life and dreamed of a future with is never easy. With high-profile public splits like the one Higgins just went through with Bushnell, there’s the added dread of having your deeply personal pain projected and dissected on the daily.
The gossip surrounding Higgins and Bushnell’s split really reached fever pitch when shortly after the breakup, it was announced that he would be partnering with fellow Bachelor alum Ashley Iaconetti for an iHeart podcast called Ben and Ashley: Almost Famous.
Naturally, whispers of a rumored romance between the podcast co-hosts began to fly. Although Higgins and Iaconetti contend they are nothing more than friends, their insistence only seems to spur the intrigue surrounding their relationship.
Higgins has apparently had it with the naysayers, though, since he felt compelled to issue a lengthy statement on social media.

“You are going to hurt somebody, you are going to hurt somebody deeply,” he started. “But, I will not be one of those people. I cannot focus on the negative comments or indecently hateful words being said about me or my relationship, though they do sting.”

Higgins went on to explain that he doesn’t rely on the opinions of haters to steer his morality. Rather, he looks to friends and family to keep him on course.
“I do desire (by the direction of family and peers) to become a better person daily. I know some will not agree with my intentions, but in all things my pursuit is to represent Christ better. With that, I will once again clearly tell you I AM NOT PERFECT as none of us are and I have never claimed to be,” he explained.
He elaborated that while his life has not been heading in the direction he’d hoped, he intended to embrace the paths set out before him, including running Generous Coffee Company, keeping up with his blog and committing himself to the podcast with Iaconetti.

Ultimately, Higgins issued a challenge to fans and foes alike.
“Love as hard as you can (even to strangers),” he said. “Ask yourself what life is about and pursue your conclusion with passion. When a good opportunity comes your way that fits your desires, take it, because life is short but a lot more fun when you are doing something you enjoy.”
