Megyn Kelly‘s Sunday night show on her new network, NBC, finally debuted over the weekend, and it did not disappoint.

On her premiere episode, Kelly got the first exclusive interview with Russian leader Vladimir Putin since U.S. officials started investigating Russian ties to the November election. It was a pretty wild ride to say the least, despite Kelly’s pretty obvious stumbles. Still, an interview with someone as controversial as Putin makes for great TV regardless of the interviewer.
Case in point: The part where he super-low-key dissed every person in the U.S.

That ridiculous moment came after Kelly asked him about the U.S. Justice Department’s investigation into Russian influence on the election. Putin was. Not. Here. For. It. “You have created a sensation out of nothing,” Putin said. “And out of this sensation you created a weapon of war against the president. You people over there…good job. Your lives must be boring.”
Then, when Kelly asked whether he has a file of information on President Trump, Putin was just as incredulous. “Well this just another load of nonsense,” he said. “Where would we get this information from? There was a time when he used to come to Moscow but, you know, I never met him… Have you all lost your sense over there?”

Kelly’s interview wasn’t the best in that she lobbed Putin some real softball questions, like questions around Michael Flynn’s alleged ties to Russia, which allowed Putin plenty of opportunity to plausibly deny any connection. But the U.S.-related negging that Putin was doing? That is the kind of unscripted comedic gold TV needs more of. If U.S. politics is going to be such a shit show, it should all be this fun.
