DOOL Confirms Kassie DePaiva’s Return & It Is the Best News Ever

The deluge of news about returning Days of Our Lives characters keeps coming at a steady pace. We already know Alison Sweeney, Chandler Massey and one possible mystery character (it may be EJ) are returning to Salem. Now, Kassie DePaiva delivers the best news ever: She is also returning to DOOL.

Last August, DePaiva revealed that she had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The course of treatment required her to be in the hospital for six weeks over a nine-week period during the summer. “My prognosis is good, I will not likely need a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, and we expect a complete cure,” she shared on her website. “I consider this just a bump in the road. I have amazing prayer warriors, family, and friends that have been extremely supportive and life-affirming throughout this.”

DePaiva went through another three months of treatment after going public with her illness. She gave an update in February and delivered wonderful news to her fans on social media. She is cancer-free.

DePaiva admitted to Soap Opera Digest in May that her battle wasn’t easy, but she persevered through the dark days. “You really walk through the valley in [sic] the shadow of death some days,” she said to the soap magazine. “The cancer just really robs you of your humanity, but you just had to keep pushing.”

Her clean bill of health also allowed DePaiva to return to her beloved DOOL set and bring Eve back to Salem. Soap Opera Digest confirmed last week that DePaiva’s back on the DOOL set and is expected to have her first scenes are in late October.

With all of these familiar faces back in the fold this fall, DOOL is getting a much-needed breath of fresh air. The show may have lost its way over the last year, but it seems like new head writer, Ron Carlivati, is determined to make Salem feel like Salem again. We couldn’t be happier.
