Turns out, we have a damn fine reason to talk about Obama today. On Thursday, Obama released a video of praise for Jay Z after the rapper was named one of the newest inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. For Jay Z, it’s a milestone moment because he is the first hip-hop artist to be inducted into this prestigious group. No doubt, being shown some love from a friend and former president is probably just the cherry on top to this sweet moment.

Obama’s show of love and solidarity was absolutely charming. To see someone support and congratulate someone they admire is always inspiring, right? In the video, Obama discussed what he loved about Jay Z as an artist and how he saw himself in comparison to Jay Z.

“I like to think Mr. Carter and I understand each other,” Obama stated. “Nobody who met us as younger men would have expected us to be where we are today. We know what it’s like not to have a father around. We know what it’s like not to come from much and to know people who didn’t get the same breaks that we did. And so we try to prop open those doors of opportunity so that it’s a little easier for those that come up behind us to succeed as well.”

While Obama was posting a sweet video, Jay Z chose to celebrate the milestone moment by going on a bit of a tweetstorm. The rapper thanked all of the musicians and rappers who inspire him to greatness every day. In classic Dad fashion, Jay Z’s tweet style was a bit confusing and silly, but truly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
