One of the best shows to come out of 2016, American Crime Story is coming back for a second season that is as highly anticipated as the first. This season is set to cover the Gianni Versace murder from 1997 and has a dynamite cast. Entertainment Weekly just released the first photos of the cast — Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Penélope Cruz as Donatella Versace, Ricky Martin as Antonio D’Amico and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace is about the murder of the 50-year-old fashion designer and icon. After coming back from a morning walk, Versace was shot twice outside his Miami Beach mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Versace died and Cunanan wasn’t caught, but killed himself nine days later with the same gun.
It’s a tragic story, but it’s the perfect story for the next season of this extremely popular and well-done series. The first season of the FX phenomenon, of course, covered the O.J. Simpson murder case with an all-star cast and amazing production. It swept this year’s Emmys with a total of nine wins.

It was rumored that Lady Gaga was slated to play Donatella Versace, but the role was eventually given to Cruz, who looks perfect for the part. The other roles seem just as simple to cast, like Ricky Martin as Antonio D’Amico, Gianni’s life partner and co-designer for the Versace brand, who fits the character just as well as D’Amico himself.
There is no premiere date set on FX for this season, but the first season of American Crime Story came out February 2016, so let’s look out for the addictive second season February 2018.
