Britney Spears’ First Trip to Israel Has Been a Bit of a Circus

Oops, she did it again. Britney Spears has caused a large commotion. Yesterday, after landing in Israel for her first-ever concert stop in the country, the pop princess tried to take a step outside but didn’t get very far.

Spears tried to visit some of the iconic holy sites in Jerusalem over the weekend, including the Western Wall. However, throngs of local fans and tourists recognized Spears, and they all wanted a closer glimpse. Sources close to the singer, plus some photographic evidence, say that Spears was practically mobbed despite her significant security outfit.

After the incident, Spears decided to cancel the rest of her events for the day, which included a possible meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu coordinated with a visit to pediatric cancer patients. There seemed to be some confusion as to whether the meeting was confirmed or not (before it was canceled), but Spears rescheduled the meet-and-greet with younger cancer patients for Monday and invited them to her show.

“Hundreds of people jumped on her, and she decided to cancel it all,” sources close to Spears told Israeli newspaper Ynetnews. “It was a huge mess, with hundreds of fans and photographers gathered around her. It was a real ‘Israeli celebration’; she didn’t stop an excursion during any other part of her latest tour. This could only happen here.”

Spears will be playing Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv on Monday night. The large outdoor concert venue has recently been visited by artists like Justin Bieber and Radiohead. It’s the last stop on her short world tour, Britney: Live in Concert. The tour, which also included dates in the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Hong Kong, was based on her Las Vegas residency show, Britney: Piece of Me. After visiting Israel, she’ll return to Vegas to finish her residency, which ends on Dec. 21, 2017.
