Newt Scamander & Albus Dumbledore Are Teaming Up in the Fantastic Beasts Sequel

Raise your self-refilling butterbeer glasses up because Warner Bros. has announced new plot details for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. The good news starts with the exciting info that protagonist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) will be joined by Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) to fight ultimate villain and Dumbledore’s childhood friend, Gellert Grindelwald (with Johnny Depp returning to the role).

As Entertainment Weekly reports on the plot, Grindelwald will escape capture and will be “gathering more followers to his cause — elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler), but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.”

Warner Bros. also stated that the series (which will eventually consist of five movies) will contain even more nods to the Harry Potter series and move its location around from New York to London and Paris. On that second note, expect more exciting international brushes with the magical community.

The first movie takes place in 1926, while the sequel will pick up a few months later in 1927. Fans believe that the fifth and final movie will take place in 1945, when Dumbledore and Grindelwald are known to have fought their final duel. Fans are also excited to find out if Dumbledore and Grindelwald had a romantic relationship at some point and if it will be covered in the movies, which take place before the Harry Potter storyline.
