The champion golfer was booked on DUI charges, but told fans he had not consumed any alcohol — rather, he blamed the arrest on a combination of prescription medications. Now, he’s updating fans via his Twitter account, where he posted a note to let them know he’s undergone treatment and is doing much better.
“I recently completed an out of state private intensive program. I will continue to tackle this going forward with my doctors, family and friends,” Woods wrote. “I am so very thankful for all the support I’ve received.”

According to police reports, Woods was arrested at 7:18 a.m. on May 29. Even though he denied having had any alcohol, his booking sheet accuses him of “having an unlawful blood alcohol level.”
In a statement released the next day, Woods took full responsibility for his arrest and said he understood how badly he had messed up and disappointed his fans.
“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions,” he wrote. “I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”

Woods’ life has been riddled with scandal for more than a decade since he was discovered to be a serial cheater and his wife divorced him. He lost a number of high-level golf sponsorships after his family-friendly image was broken. He’s also been away from the golf game this season due to a lingering back injury — he had surgery just a few weeks before his DUI arrest.
