Kathy Griffin May Have Been Questioned by the Secret Service

Wait, do you mean to tell me that this whole Kathy Griffin vs. Donald Trump thing hasn’t blown over yet? She shot a photo holding a prop head that looked like the bloody severed head of the president. It was arguably in poor taste, but still protected free speech. That should have been the end of it, right?

Well, considering this is a matter that directly concerns Trump, the chances were slim to none this matter would be put to bed following Griffin’s public apology. According to New York magazine, a Secret Service investigation into Griffin is still ongoing, and she was — reportedly — recently “interviewed by the Secret Service, in-person, for over an hour.” Seriously? Do they really think she’s an actual threat because of that photo? Don’t they have, like, actual criminals to interview? Interestingly, Griffin seemed to confirm this new turn in the investigation on Thursday without directly commenting on it.

Griffin lost her job at CNN and a bunch of endorsement deals over the photos, which should honestly be punishment enough. She hasn’t spoken publicly about all the backlash since her press conference days after she posted the photos, but her lawyer released a statement arguing that everything she did was within her constitutionally protected rights.

“We’re going to fully cooperate with the Secret Service in their investigation,” attorney Dmitry Gorin said on Griffin’s behalf. “She basically exercised her First Amendment rights to tell a joke. When you look at everything in the media, all the times entertainers make videos or express themselves in other ways, you’ve seen an entertainer, let alone a comedian, be subject to a criminal investigation.”

Despite all this, though, at her press conference, Griffin noted that she’s not backing down from the president.

“I’m not afraid of Donald Trump,” she said at the time. “He’s a bully. I’ve felt with older white guys trying to keep me down my whole life, my whole career.”

Considering how this is still ongoing, we can’t help but wonder if she’s changed her mind.
