Venus Williams may not have won Wimbledon this year, but she’s far from done competing for the title.
After her defeat today, Williams spoke to reporters with a message for her sister, fellow tennis champion Serena Williams.

“I miss you,” Venus told Serena, who didn’t compete this year because she is expecting her first child. “I tried my best to do the same things you do, but I think there will be other opportunities, I do.”
A supportive audience greeted her words with plenty of cheers and applause.
Venus was defeated by Garbiñe Muguruza in the finals on Saturday in a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Muguruza lost to Serena in the 2015 competition.

While Venus may be leaving disappointed, the Spanish community, including fellow tennis pro Rafael Nadal, is celebrating Muguruza’s victory.
Meanwhile, Serena has yet to speak out about her sister’s performance at Wimbledon. No doubt, she’s supporting Venus from afar. These two have a healthy record of sticking by one another’s side, despite being competitors.

It has been a rough summer for Venus, who was involved in a fatal car crash in June. When asked about the accident at a July 3 press conference, Venus called it “completely devastating,” then got choked up and left the conference.
After her win at Wimbledon, Muguruza explained what it meant for her to win against Venus: “When I was a little girl, I was watching these finals. I was watching Venus. I know it sounds incredible. To be able to play against her and now hold the big trophy, it means a lot.”
