Celebrities can seem so unattainable.
But sometimes, they do work to make themselves more accessible, especially when their fans really need it. Think celebs visiting hospitals or sending personalized gifts to fans in need. Ryan Reynolds is in the middle of filming the Deadpool sequel, so he couldn’t get away. But technology came to the rescue and allowed him to FaceTime with a fan who really needed a boost: a little boy in the U.K. named Daniel who’s battling cancer.

Daniel Downing has a rare, aggressive form of cancer called pontine glioma, and at only 5 years old, he’s fighting for his life. But getting to chat with his hero was a visible bright spot for him; just check out the video to see how excited he was.

“Daniel picked up the phone and Ryan asked if he knew who he was,” Daniel’s mom, Stephanie Downing, told reporters. “As soon as Daniel realized, he asked if he could FaceTime him and then he was very, very hyper.”
Hyper is an understatement. If you watched the video above, you saw that that kid was stoked.
Stephanie Downing continued, “I’m so happy for Daniel ? it’s something he wouldn’t normally have been able to do and he was so excited. He told all his friends and his teachers. It’s nice to see him so excited because he has been a bit down lately.”
She also said Reynolds’ decision to call was “absolutely fantastic.”
Um, yeah, that’s a little bit of an understatement.
