The First Clip Is Here, & J.Law’s New Film Mother Looks Like a Total Mind-F***

Following months of secrecy surrounding director Darren Aronofsky’s latest project, Mother, the first look is finally here — and it’s safe to say this Jennifer Lawrence-fronted film is going to leave audiences feeling decidedly unsettled.

Remember that scene in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when Willy takes the golden ticket holders through that trippy boat tunnel with images of flies and dead chickens and other horrifying things flashing? It’s kinda like that.

In other words, a total mind-fuck.

According to the film synopsis, Mother centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. As of yet, it’s not clear whether Lawrence is one-half of the couple being disrupted or one of the unexpected guests doing the disrupting.

The short clip for the psychological horror features Lawrence walking around a large, apparently empty old house. Eerie snippets of conversations from the movie play, coming to an intense peak with what sounds like Lawrence’s character screaming, “Murderer!”

The screen then cuts to black as another voice says, “God help you,” and visuals blur by in a disturbing montage: a man engulfed in flames, a dying locust, Michelle Pfeiffer being seduced and someone being clubbed over the head. So, yeah, maybe plan on not sleeping after you watch it.

As for a full-length trailer, the teaser clip reveals we can expect to see the longer version on Aug. 8 — which given the release date is cutting it pretty close.
The film was originally slated to hit theaters in October but was just pushed up to Sept. 15. Clearly, Aronofsky and Lawrence are psyched about getting it out there and scaring the living wits out of audiences across America.
