More Twilight & Hunger Games Movies Are on the Way

Yep — you read that right. Even though movies have been made for every book in the Twilight and Hunger Games sagas (in some cases, more than one movie per book), the studio behind those films is hungry to cash in on the franchise more. It just needs authors Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins on board.

“There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during a quarterly earnings call this week.

This isn’t a new concept. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was turned into three wildly successful movies, and then the studio turned its eye toward prequel The Hobbit, which became three more less successful but still well-earning movies.

The same goes for Harry Potter. The seven-book series became eight wildly popular movies, and then filmmakers turned to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, creating one more film so far, with four more in the works.

These franchises all prove one thing: When a fandom is involved, continuing the franchise in any way possible means more money. Clearly, Lionsgate thinks that rule will apply to both Twilight and The Hunger Games.

So far, though, the authors haven’t given us any more stories to work with, so more films may never become more than a hope for Lionsgate. That may be bad news for the fandom, but every story has to end at some point, y’all. Dragging it out forever simply because movie studios want to make more money is a surefire way to get subpar material. Do you really want that for your favorite fantasy worlds?
