Jennifer Lawrence is the latest in a string of celebrities to speak out, calling, like so many others, for the people who attended the “Unite the Right” rally to be publicly identified by the photos of them marching with torches.
“These are the faces of hate. Look closely and post anyone you find. You can’t hide with the internet you pathetic cowards!” Lawrence wrote.

Unsurprisingly, her words divided the internet. You wouldn’t think calling out literal Nazis would be a thing we need to argue about, but welcome to America in 2017. Some of the top comments on Lawrence’s post are harsh criticisms of her post.
“Jennifer Lawrence calling for people’s private lives to be invaded because of their personal beliefs (no matter how vile) is ironic,” reads one comment with nearly 4,000 likes. “The vast majority of celebrities are the faces of stupidity & hate toward conservatives,” another commenter wrote, garnering hundreds of likes. Other comments called Lawrence an “idiot” or “snowflake” and asked her to “stick to making shitty movies” rather than saying anything political.

Granted, Lawrence’s decision to post calling the marchers “pathetic cowards” probably wasn’t the best way to start a productive conversation. But one person is on the right side of history here, and it’s not anyone who was marching for the alt-right in Charlottesville, nor is it any of the marchers’ supporters; it’s Lawrence.
