Daniel Craig Is Has Officially Announced His Return as James Bond

Earlier this week, Daniel Craig confirmed while appearing in an interview with Stephen Colbert that he would be back for another James Bond movie. But, er, what made him change his mind? Because, if you’ll recall, Craig wasn’t so hot on the idea of returning as Bond a few years ago.

After the release of Spectre back in 2015, Craig famously (or infamously) had some pretty harsh things to say about the possibility of making another Bond movie.

“Look, I don’t give a fuck,” he said when asked who should be the next Bond, adding, “Good luck to them! All I care about is that if I stop doing these things, we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better. Make it better, that’s all.”

And he didn’t stop there. Nope, Craig took a big step further to make sure everyone really knew how he felt about the Bond franchise by telling us all what he’d rather do than make another movie as 007. “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists.”

Before the end of the interview, he opened up to the possibility, but said if he played James Bond again, “it would only be for the money.”

Needless to say, we assumed we were getting a new 007 this year. Surprise! Craig just confirmed that he is, in fact, reprising his role one more time.

Obviously, he needed to address those comments, because harsh. During the appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he explained that he was burned out in the days following shooting Spectre.

“There is no point in making excuses about it, but it was two days after I finished shooting the last movie,” he said. “I went straight into an interview and someone said, ‘Would you do another one?’ And I went, ‘No.’ And instead of saying something with style and grace, I gave a really stupid answer.”

All this drama aside, we’re surprised — and still a little salty, considering how rude he was — but we’ll welcome Craig back anyway.
