Paris Jackson made certain her first time at the MTVVMAs counted — before presenting the award for best pop song, the 19-year-old made a surprising move for an award show rookie. Instead of making jokes or reading hammy lines from a teleprompter, Jackson used her time onstage to call out hate groups.
Specifically, Jackson went in on Nazis and white supremacists.

“You know, if we were all to put our voices together, do you know the difference we could make? If we were to stand up all united as one, our impact it would be ‘yuge.’ It would be ‘yuge.’ Believe me, ‘yuge.’ And that’s not fake news,” she said, alluding to remarks made by the current POTUS.
“So, let’s leave here tonight remembering that we must show these Nazi, white supremacist jerks in Charlottesville and all over the country… we have zero tolerance for their violence, their hatred and their discrimination. We must resist.”

And while no one was expecting Jackson to address such a tense sociopolitical subject (at her first VMAs, no less), her impassioned speech garnered major applause from the audience — and the good people of the interwebz.

Of course, Jackson’s speech shifts focus back to the racial tension currently plaguing the country. Mere weeks ago, 32-year-old Heather Heyer died when James Alex Fields Jr. drove his car through a crowd of protesters at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.
