Ben Affleck Apologizes for Groping Hilarie Burton on TRL

Update October 11, 2017, 10:45 a.m. PT:Ben Affleck has issued an apology over Twitter after claims made by actor Hilarie Burton that he sexually assaulted her while appearing on MTV’s TRL in 2003 quickly circulated.

Original story:

In the wake of decades of allegations of sexual misconduct against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, which has been rapidly coming to light in various lengthy reports since Oct. 5, there is now another man closely associated with Weinstein who finds himself under scrutiny for possibly committing similar acts.

After giving his statement denouncing the actions of Weinstein, Ben Affleck became the topic of focus — mostly on social media — when actors Hilarie Burton and later Rose McGowan claimed that Affleck’s own nose isn’t clean when it comes to sexually assaulting women. Burton’s claims, in particular, are now gaining widespread attention as the focus sharpens on Affleck’s past conduct.

In response to Affleck’s claims that the news about Weinstein “made [him] sick,” and that Hollywood needs to step up to “condemn this type of behavior when we see it,” a fan tweeted about remembering a time Affleck allegedly groped Burton on MTV show TRL.

“He also grabbed Hilarie Burton’s breasts on TRL once. Everyone forgot though,” the fan wrote.

Burton herself replied to the tweet, writing, “I didn’t forget.”

The fan replied, telling Burton, “I’m so sorry that happened to you. It’s infuriating that people never bring up all the gross, predatory things he’s done.”

Burton replied again, writing, “Seriously, thank you for that. I was a kid.”

Burton then went on to tweet out a clip from TRL that vaguely hints, in bits and pieces, at what Affleck allegedly did to Burton. At one point, Burton says, “And he comes over and tweaks my left boob” in what appears to be a taped interview for MTV. Additionally, there is a clip of Affleck being interviewed by Burton where he says, “How old are you? 19?” although it’s unclear what the context of the questions that were being asked were, although Burton appears to laugh it off.

Affleck has been under fire since the Weinstein report was released. Weinstein has been a friend to Affleck for years and helped build his career, and actor Rose McGowan, who was revealed to be one of Weinstein’s alleged victims, has been putting Affleck on blast, claiming he knew about Weinstein’s actions and helped cover them up.
