The internet promptly lost its chill on Monday when the first official trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther dropped. While we’d had a teaser to whet our appetites for the first solo adventures of Black Panther, the Wakandan king-turned-superhero we got a glimpse of in Captain America: Civil War, this first official trailer blew all our expectations out of the water.

The first official trailer promises — nay, ensures — that Black Panther will be unlike any other Marvel superhero film we’ve seen since the official extended and cohesive Marvel cinematic universe began more than a decade ago. Directed by Creed helmer Ryan Coogler and starring prominent actors Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira, Michael B. Jordan and, of course, the star himself Chadwick Boseman, it’s clear Black Panther’s story, vision and cast will bring this story to life in ways we never could have imagined.
Filled to the brim with action, we get a good idea of what to expect from this film: T’Challa, aka Black Panther, will return to his home nation of Wakanda following the death of his father. While there, he’ll face off against weapons manufacturer Ulysses Klaue (played by Andy Serkis) and his vengeful ally, Erik Killmonger (Jordan). T’Challa will have to not only become Black Panther in order to protect his people, but he’ll also come into his own as a superhero during this eventful time.

The trailer promises stunning visual effects, building out the Afrofuturistic world of Wakanda (which, in the comics, is a private and highly advanced nation — the most technologically advanced in the world) and showing us some great glimpses into the action sequences we can expect to revel in. It’s pretty tough not to lose your cool when watching a trailer this vibrant and high-octane.
Needless to say, the internet fully and completely flipped for the trailer, with many making it plain through their well-crafted tweets and GIF choices just how much they were feeling this trailer.

It’s going to be a long wait to see Black Panther hit theaters in February 2018, but something tells me this trailer will keep us plenty hyped until then.
