During an interview on BBC One’s The One Show, Harington revealed that he cried at the script read-through with the cast.
“I’m really emotional about it,” he said. “I cried at the end.”
Of course, Harington made sure to qualify that statement. He said his emotions didn’t necessarily come from plot points in the script’s finale but in the idea of the franchise ending.
“I think no one really cares about it more than us,” Harington said of the cast and crew of the show. “It’s been an institution longer than any other institution I’ve been in, school, drama school, anything. I get a bit weepy thinking about it. It’s gonna be a strange sort of year saying goodbye to everyone.”

Harington isn’t the first Game of Thrones star to dish about the finale. John Bradley, who plays Sam, also shared his reaction to the series finale.

Bradley called the final season’s storyline “poetic” and added, “I think what we used to call Episode 9 in Game of Thrones folklore — the episode when everything comes to a head and you get a lot of spectacular sequences — I think you’re gonna get six ‘Episode 9s’ this year. You can tell that because we’ve got directors who have been in charge of some of the most huge set pieces in the past doing episodes all throughout the season.”
Game of Thrones begins filming its final season on Monday.
