Did Priscilla Presley Leave the Church of Scientology?

It would appear that Priscilla Presley is still a devout Scientologist, contrary to recent reports claiming otherwise. Over the weekend, erroneous reports were made by U.K. outlet Daily Mail that Presley allegedly said she was “done” with Scientology and had plans to leave. The only problem was that the initial report was spotty and failed to state to whom Presley had even made her statement of intention to leave Scientology, which only casts doubt on how truthful that initial report was.

To People magazine, Presley’s reps confirmed that Presley was still a member of Scientology and did not indicate whether her affiliation with the church was going to change anytime soon. Presley has been a member of Scientology for years now, and it’s rumored she joined the church shortly after the death of her late husband, Elvis Presley, in 1977. For a while, their daughter, Lisa-Marie, was also a Scientologist, but it’s believed she may have quietly left the church (she has neither confirmed nor denied this claim).

The Presleys are among some of the highest-profile members of the Church of Scientology. While actor Tom Cruise is perhaps the face of the church, other celebrity members reportedly include The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss, Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon and John Travolta. The church has been in the headlines recently for a famous ex-member, Kevin Can Wait star Leah Remini, whose explosive A&E documentary about the church has earned her an Emmy as well as serious attention for the grave claims she has made about the church’s practices.

For now, though, it would appear there is no separation between Presley and Scientology.
