Christian Bale is known for transforming for roles, and his latest gig is proving to be no exception. In set photos that have surfaced from his currently untitled film about Dick Cheney, Bale is basically unrecognizable.

Bale is set to play the former vice president alongside Amy Adams, who will be stepping into the role of Lynne Cheney. And let’s just say they both really committed to looking the part — especially Bale.
So how did Bale complete his Cheney transformation? According to a recent interview with Variety, “a lot of pies.” That was what Bale joked he’d been eating in order to gain the weight needed to mimic Cheney.

Of course, the answer is likely a bit more complicated than that. But at this point in his career, Bale probably knows precisely what to do in order to pack on the pounds… and take them away.
For the 2004 psychological thriller The Machinist, Bale shed an extreme amount of weight (guesses put it at half his body weight!) to play a gaunt insomniac. And let’s not forget the way he manipulated his looks in order to play the sketchy con artist Irving Rosenfeld in American Hustle.

Bale is arguably one of the best method actors in Hollywood, so it’s not entirely surprising he would totally immerse himself in this new role. Still, it doesn’t make it any less impressive when you see photos of the actor on set and quite literally wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a lineup.
Bale was more recognizable as Batman, and he was wearing a mask for half of those movies!
