Mark Wahlberg highly regrets doing Boogie Nights, and he’s not afraid to admit it.
“I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I’ve made some poor choices in my past,” Wahlberg said at an event in Chicago on Friday. “Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list.”

Boogie Nights was released in 1997 and co-starred Burt Reynolds and Julianne Moore. It was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and is considered a cult classic. Though he’s a devout Catholic, Wahlberg played a young man who becomes a porn star in the late ’70s and early ’80s.
On doing a sequel, he toldABC News earlier this year, “Oh God, what would Dirk be up to now? If you asked me now at my age to play that part, I’d be hard-pressed to say yes, because I have four kids. I’ve got two daughters, I’m married and I try not to let that affect what I do as an artist. But being a dad, it’d be tougher to make that decision now.”
In fact, Wahlberg admitted to ABC News he almost didn’t do the film to begin with.

“I wouldn’t even read the script because I was turned off by the subject matter. Then you start hearing from everybody in town, ‘No, no, you have to read this thing.’ Finally, I reluctantly picked it up, read 35 pages, put it down and said, ‘This could be really good or it could be really bad.”
It’s probably a good thing Wahlberg decided to go ahead with the project despite his reservations. It is now considered to be his breakout role.
