ABC Just Gave Grey’s Anatomy Fans an Early Christmas Present (or 2)

If you’re a longtime Grey’s Anatomy fan, you’re undoubtedly tired of haters incredulously asking, “That show is still on?” Well, now you can not only tell them yes, but that Season 14 will be even longer than planned.

That’ right, superfans — ABC has extended Grey’s by two episodes this season, bringing the season’s total episodes up to 24. That means that by season’s end, our favorite medical drama will have reached an impressive 317 episodes total.

Uh, what’s that you said about the show not surviving, haters?

The veteran series has consistently pulled high viewership numbers in its 14th season, leading Thursday night primetime scripted television with nearly 8 million viewers.

Although the series has already seen a few cast and guest star exits this season, fans don’t seem too fazed. And with future guest stars as well as a midseason spinoff looming, Grey’s could see numbers surge even more in the second half of the season.

Perhaps such solid ratings have put ABC in the holiday spirit early this year, because Grey’s isn’t the only series on ABC getting the extra-episodes treatment. Black-ish, which is in its fourth season, and American Housewife, which is in its first season, will also receive an additional two episodes each.

Per The Wrap, the network has also announced that Freeform’s annual 25 Days of Christmas block will include all Disney/ABC Television Group channels this year — meaning fans of shows like American Housewife and Black-ish will get to enjoy holiday episodes.

And because all of this news has put us in the holiday spirit, here are a few early presents for you, dear readers: The Catch‘s Jay Hayden, Hamilton‘s Okieriete Onaodowan, Aquarius‘ Grey Damon and Too Close to Home‘s Danielle Savre. All four of these rising stars have been cast to appear in the new Grey’s firefighter spinoff. If that’s not good tidings of joy, we don’t know what is.
