Selena Gomez and The Weeknd’s breakup is yesterday’s news (like, literally). Today, Gomez is making headlines for a much happier reason: she has been named Billboard‘s 2017 Woman of the Year.

The pop star joins the ranks of previous high-profile recipients, such as Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Pink and Madonna.

“Not only is Selena soaring on the charts, but she continuously inspires young women everywhere to be authentic, give back and to not be afraid to use their voice. She is never afraid to speak her mind and has used her platform to advocate for the needs of others. We are thrilled to be able to honor her as our Woman of the Year,” explained John Amato, president of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group.
Make no mistake, she’s definitely deserving.
This year alone, she has seen “Bad Liar,” “Fetish” (featuring Gucci Mane) and “It Ain’t Me” (with Kygo) land in the top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Suffice it to say, this pop star is on fire.

The scope of her talent and influence stretches much further than singing, of course — Gomez co-produced Netflix’s wildly resonant drama 13 Reasons Why too. She has also partnered with brands like Coach and Puma on collections and thrown herself into her seemingly endless philanthropic causes, such as the StepUp Foundation and fundraising for the Lupus Research Alliance.
Did we mention she also successfully underwent a kidney transplant this year? At 25, Gomez’s age belies what a force to be reckoned with she is.

Gomez will be presented with the award at the annual Women in Music gala on Nov. 30 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles. For the first time in the Women in Music event’s history, it, along with a red carpet preshow, will be broadcast live on Twitter from 9 p.m. to midnight ET.
Congrats to Gomez on this well-deserved honor!
