Grey’s Anatomy just aired its 300th episode, and along with it, had a red carpet celebration for its cast. Entertainment Tonight asked Kevin McKidd, who plays Cristina’s former flame Dr. Hunt, whether Sandra Oh would consider a return to the show, something fans have been clamoring for for years. His answer?

“I hope she will,” he said. “I think it would be so much fun, and it would open up so much again in the story and mix everything up.”

That’s an understatement. Cristina and Hunt have a complicated history on the show. They were both incredibly damaged when they met each other and then began their relationship, which was both healing and harmful for the two of them. Still, they kept trying to make it work, right up until Cristina’s departure for Switzerland when she got a lucrative job offer there.

Now, in Season 14, the timing seems right for Cristina’s return. Hunt is in a relationship with Amelia that’s slowly falling apart, and his past love could be just the shakeup he needs.

“Hunt, wherever he is in his life, would have incredible stories [with Cristina],” McKidd said. “And she’s just such an amazing actor that I still miss her to this day. Every day. Even though she only lives five minutes away from the studio.”

For her part, Oh has long stayed silent about whether she would make a return to Grey’s. But McKidd revealed that when he mentioned it to her recently, she replied, “Well, maybe.” That’s not a no, so we’re not giving up.
