It’s that special time of year once again when we wait with bated breath the reveal of the next batch of Grammy nominees. There were some big leaders among the nominees for the 2018 Grammys, including Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and Lady Gaga. Of course, previous winner Taylor Swift might have been expected to scoop up some nominations for the Grammys because of her recently released album Reputation (her first in three years).

However, Swift is excluded from the nominations for her work on Reputation solely because of those silly little qualifying rules from The Recording Academy, which presides over the Grammys. According to the rules for eligibility, a song or album can be considered eligible if released from October of the preceding year to September of the following year. As such, the bracket for qualification for the 2018 Grammys would be from Oct. 1, 2016, to Sept. 30, 2017. This means Reputation, which was released on Nov. 10, darn near misses the mark by just a tiny bit.
But fear not! There’s hope for Swift to get her 2018 Grammy after all.

Swift is nominated for two 2018 Grammys. The first is for Best Country Song for Little Big Town’s “Better Man.” She actually wrote the song and she won the Country Music Award for Song of the Year just a few weeks ago. She is also nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for her duet with Zayn Malik, the song “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever,” which was featured in the movie Fifty Shades Darker.

Swift has yet to react to her two nominations in the hours after the announcement of the 2018 Grammy nominees, but there’s no doubt she’s beyond excited her hard work is paying off in some way.
