Insider Gives Update on Ben Affleck’s Sobriety

Ben Affleck has been through a lot of changes of late, but there’s one thing he’s making sure stays consistent: his sobriety. Affleck has been pretty transparent about his goal to stay clean, and that means continuing treatment even as he’s moving regularly across the country to be with his family in Los Angeles and his girlfriend, Lindsay Shookus, in New York City.

“Ben’s main priorities have never wavered,” a source close to the family told Us Weekly. “He’s focused on his family and spending time with Lindsay [Shookus]. Dealing with this disease is something he’ll have to work on for the rest of his life, and he remains focused on it.”

That means Affleck has a treatment plan and a support system that includes multiple treatment centers on both side of the country, Us Weekly reports. He’s been spotted at several treatment centers around L.A.

Affleck has been fighting alcohol addiction for a long time. He completed his first treatment program in 2001 and has struggled to stay clean since then. In March, he posted a long, heartfelt message to Facebook explaining that he had been struggling with his addiction and was seeking help again.

“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be,” he wrote. “I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my coparent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”

Hopefully, his current support system is just what Affleck needs to stay on track.
