Who Does Meghan Markle Want to Walk Her Down the Aisle?

With a new year now in full swing, the only thing Meghan Markle likely has on her mind is planning her wedding. With a mid-May date officially on the calendar, there’s hardly any time at all to plan such a sumptuous affair; the details have to be perfect.

And from the sound of it, those details aren’t always going to include traditional choices. Then again, would you expect Markle to follow tradition to the letter? Hell no. She’s a modern woman who comes from an unconventional (read: nonroyal) background, and she’s bound to spice things up where she can.

This is especially evident with the latest news about who Markle would like to walk her down the aisle and give her away at her wedding. According to a source speaking with E! News, Markle wants to walk down the aisle with her mother. While a bride would traditionally be walked down the aisle and given away by her father, Markle’s intention to be given away by her mother, yoga instructor and psychotherapist Doria Ragland, is made all the more special by the fact that she looks up to her mother in a big way.

In an August 2017 interview for Glamour, Markle cited her mother as one of the 10 women who has changed her life. About Ragland, she said: “My mom’s a yoga instructor, but she does social work, as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community. For me to watch this level of life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time, my mom has always been a free spirit. She’s got dreadlocks and a nose ring. She just ran the L.A. Marathon. We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support. That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend.”

Markle and her mom have such a close bond (especially with her father reportedly estranged from Markle) that it makes total — and perfect — sense that they would walk down the aisle together. There’s no doubt there will be big tears as Ragland gives her daughter away, but they’ll surely be for a good reason.
