Debra Messing came to slay at the 75th Golden Globes, and she wasn’t going to let anyone steal her shine.
Nowhere was that more evident than when, while on the red carpet, Messing didn’t miss a beat in calling out E! News (while being interviewed by E! News, mind you) for its equal pay scandal in December 2017. The scandal ignited when longtime anchor Catt Sadler revealed she was leaving the network after discovering that her male co-host, Jason Kennedy, made almost double her salary for the past several years.

“Time is up and we want diversity, we want intersectional gender parity, we want equal pay,” Messing said when E! host Giuliana Rancic asked her why she wore black to the Golden Globes in support of the “Time’s Up” movement. “I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn’t believe in paying their female co-hosts the same as their male co-hosts.”
Needless to say, that’s a pretty bold move for Messing make, calling out the very network that’s interviewing her. Way to stay spicy, Messing. Way. To. Stay. Spicy.

Messing continued, “I miss Catt Sadler, so we stand with her. That’s something that can change tomorrow. We want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men.”

Rancic agreed with Messing’s point, adding, “Absolutely. That’s really what this movement is all about. We have an amazing platform here. There are a lot of big great voices here tonight who can speak on behalf of [people] who don’t have these voices.”

Messing is far from the only celebrity to speak out in support of Sadler ahead of the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Sadler told Page Six she is “immensely grateful” for all the support she received at the 2018 Golden Globes. It’s nice to see Sadler getting the full support of her peers, and it’s especially good to see Messing standing her ground, even at the risk of things getting a bit awkward.
